Ready to adopt a Maine Coon Kitten?

STEP ONE:

Submit a Kitten Application

At Mountain Crest Maine Coons, you must submit a kitten application to be considered for adoption. New kitten applications open once a litter has been born and they reach at least 6-8 weeks of age. To stay up to date with when kitten applications open, please subscribe to my text list below. My text list will be the first to hear when I am accepting new kitten applications.

**We are currently swapping over to this new method so please we patient with us. Currently, we have been accepting applications all year round but we have been getting an overwhelming amount of applications so this new method will be taking place in 2025.**

STEP TWO:

Reserve Your Perfect Kitten

Once we have approved your application and a kitten has bee selected we require a deposit ($500) to reserve the kitten. This deposit will be deducted from the final kitten cost. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferrable. Since I wait until 6-8 weeks of age for adopters to pick their kitten, I no longer allow for deposits to transfer to future litters. All money towards the kitten cost must be paid at least 10 days prior to the kitten’s go home date. Acceptable forms of payment are Zelle, or Venmo.

Note: I am required by the State of Utah law to collect 8.25% sales tax on all kittens sold to Utah residents only.

STEP THREE:

Sign the Adoption Agreement

After you reserve your kitten, I will send an adoption contract to be electronically signed by myself and the kitten purchaser. This contract must be signed at least 10 days prior to the kitten’s go home date. This contract includes my 3 year health guarantee against genetic diseases as well as other conditions of sale.

STEP FOUR:

Prepare for Your New Kitten’s Arrival

By the time you reserve your kitten, he or she will be ready to come home to you in about 6 weeks (at a minimum of 14 weeks of age). This gives you approximately 1.5 months to get ready for the arrival of your new kitten.

Make sure you are ready for the pick-up or delivery of your kitten. I do not offer shipping so you must pick up your kitten at my home in Salt Lake City, Utah or hire a pet flight nanny to bring the kitten to you. (We have some we can recommend.)

Book an appointment with a veterinarian. Start looking for a veterinary to take your new kitten to for a health exam. Many veterinarians have busy schedules, so I suggest booking an appointment at least 10 days before your kitten’s go home date which is at 14 weeks of age. Your kitten must be seen by a veterinarian within 72 hours of you taking possession of the kitten.

I recommend also setting up an appointment with your veterinarian to give your kitten the Rabies vaccine and 3rd FVRCP. Your kitten will not receive these vaccines before they go to their new home, because your kitten will be to young to be given these vaccines.

Kitten Pricing

Starting in 2024, all kittens will be priced the same at $4000.

What’s included with your kitten:

– 3 year health guarantee.
– Spay/neuter prior to going home
– Kitten will receive its first and second FVRCP vaccines.
– Kitten will be dewormed.
– Kitten will be microchipped. Microchip must be updated with your name.
– A welcome bag from us that includes food samples, toys, and kitten information.
– TICA registration form will be provided.
– A binder with vaccination timeline/records & veterinary wellness exam paperwork.

Do you do any testing on your breeding cats?

We do DNA testing through optimal selection. This covers over 40+ gene mutation tests including (HCM, SMA, PkD) but DNA testing alone isn’t quite enough. This is why we also do hip testing & routine echocardiograms with a board-certified cardiologist. We proudly display our test results on this website (under kings and queen pages.)

No matter the cost, we believe that breeding responsibly means having these tests preformed (and retiring / not breeding the cats that don’t pass these tests) and doing all we can do to better the breed.

What is your waitlist process?

To be on our waitlist, you must fill out our kitten application & be approved. We are currently in the process of updating how we do things.

But for now, once you are approved we will reach out once we have kittens available. This will be around 6-8 weeks old. We will let you know what date reservations will open. At this point you can state the kitten you are hoping for. Sometimes, we have multiple people wanting the same kitten – in this case we will choose the person that has waited the longest. But we will also consider the best match/home for the specific kitten.

The deposit to hold a kitten is $500 and goes towards the total cost of the kitten. And it is non-refundable.

When do the kittens get to go home?

Kittens will be able to go home around the 13-14 week mark. We will be spaying and neutering them prior to them going home. Although, it’s rare sometimes we need to hold on to a kitten longer if we feel they need more time to heal.

Out of state buyers / Delivery?

If you live out of state we have flight nanny recommendations. These will range $300-850. And you are welcome to fly here and pickup yourself – we’re happy to meet at the airport.

If we are available we can deliver them ourselves (we love to see them off when possible) We will go over options after or when you are close reserving a kitten.

What do you feed them?

We feed them a mixture of wet and dry food (Nulo). And cooked meat – chicken, pork, turkey etc as a topper. They LOVE it. As well as supplements to keep them in tip-top shape. As well as raw – cats are obligate carnivore and need lots of protein to thrive.

Where are you located?

We are located in the Salt Lake Valley, Utah. We are about 20 minutes from the SLC airport.

Will you sell with breeding rights?

We do not sell breeding rights. They are for pet homes only.

Can we visit our kitten or your cattery?

Sorry, we don’t not allow visitors. We have a lot of people that have requested this and we just can’t have this much foot traffic in our home for various reasons.

We are happy to FaceTime meet you though! And will send tons of photos and videos of you new family member in our updates!

What do you get with your kitten?

Why do you do early spay and neuter? Will it stunt my kittens growth?

We have found that the kittens heal quicker when this is done younger. And it also gives us peace of mind that our kittens won’t end up with a BYB. We do heavily screen our applicants but you never know when someone is being dishonest.

It does not stunt growth, in fact they typically grow a little larger. The current recommendation is 13-14 weeks old or over 2kg in weight. We will be following this recommendation.

Early spay/neuter has been done around the world for decades & they’re lots of studies on it. A 2002 study done at Cornell University followed 1600 cats for 11 years and found no diseases, injury or other common issues in kittens neutered between ages 3.5-6 months vs those after 6 months.

Some vets are still stuck recommending the random age of 6 months, not all vets keep up with the times and recent studies.
