Hugh Test Results

Hugh was our first breeding male. He received a heart ultrasound at 12 months with the veterinary resources available to us at the time, and no HCM was found. His hips also appear healthy, though they were not officially graded, as this was before our current comprehensive screening protocols were established.

As our program grew, we transitioned to using a board-certified cardiologist and expanded our orthopedic testing to the standards we follow today. Hugh was later retired after developing entropion in both eyes; fortunately, none of his offspring inherited this issue. While entropion can occur sporadically and is not uncommon in some lines, we chose retirement out of caution and our commitment to continual improvement.

Hugh now lives with a very close friend and is in excellent health. His early role in our program helped shape the rigorous health testing and transparency we are committed to today.

This condition only causes problems if a kitten inherits two copies of the gene—one from each parent. Cats with just one copy are healthy carriers and never develop the disease. Because none of our other cats carry this variant, no kittens in our program have been or could be affected. Hugh is now retired, and this gene is no longer present in any active breeding lines.
